Service Description
Learn how to screen print on to paper porcelain with Donna Bloye During this course I will explain the different types of screens that I use for my pieces, which are made by screen printing on to newsprint and then transferred on to paper porcelain. I will explain the types of underglaze inks I use for screen printing and which techniques they work best with. Each person will create a layered image using the screens provided, which will then be transferred on to paper porcelain. We will create and use view finder templates for best composition of the transferred image. This will then be cut out and hand built to create a porcelain vessel that will be fired to glaze temperatures to brighten the colours. (Please note that no transparent glaze will be added to the piece, however it will be fired to a high temperature and will be fully vitrified.) My name is Donna Bloye and I work from my studio in Bangor, but most will know me as the 2024 Winner of The Great Pottery Throwdown. Since winning the show I have focused on developing methods and techniques for screen printing on to clay using both specially formulated slips and underglazes. It has become a bit of an obsession of mine and in this workshop, I will get to share a little bit of that passion for graphic, layered screen printed images on to clay with you.
