Tuesdays 6pm-8pm 13th/20th/27th May & 3rd June In this 4 week course Fang will introduce different methods of decorating clay, looking at both 2-D and 3-D surfaces. You will learn how to use ceramic 'pastels', inlay slip, brush work as well as mono-printing with cobalt blue stain. Coloured stains will be used in a clay slip as a liquid paint to apply surface decoration before it is fired. It is an excellent way to create intricate designs, textures, or patterns on pottery. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn from our artist in residence, Fang will lead you through each technique to produce a finished piece in each session that will focus on each method using the themes below. . Week 1 -Still life with ceramic 'pastels' Week 2 -Leaf Inlay Small dish Week 3 - Your Garden -Monoprint Plate Week 4 - Cat - brush work tile. Fang Zhao's work is inspired by her Chinese background, particularly her interest in traditional Chinese mountain painting. She uses organic mountain shapes as a metaphor to examine her personal life journey. Working from thematic sketches, she experiments to explore materials, form and surface decoration.
